Next Generation WiFi-based Positioning
We are currently offering products and solutions in indoor wireless positioning, e.g. asset tracking, using Bluetooth (BLE)-enabled radio technology. This is accomplished by making use of direction finding (DF) capabilities based on angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimation of wireless signals received from multiple antenna arrays. There is also a continuous demand for investigating new techniques and integrating new wireless technologies, in order to enrich our future portfolio in wireless indoor positioning.
The aim of this project is to study next generation wireless positioning techniques based on recent advancements of WiFi technology (e.g., IEEE 802.11ax, 802.11az, 802.11be) that make use of high frequencies and much large bandwidths to advance connectivity. With these enablers, the position estimation accuracy is enhanced combined with some more sophisticated algorithms and localization techniques.
Tasks:

  • Identification of new capabilities and features of the recently introduced WiFi protocols, e.g. 802.11ax, 802.11bd
  • Literature search of the latest wireless positioning techniques using WiFi technology (e.g. 802.11az) and their advantages against the state-of-the-art
  • Computer-based simulations (preferably in MATLAB) demonstrating the increased positioning accuracy of such a system
  • Fine tuning and optimization of system parameters in practical indoor environments with high channel variations

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Students of Greek University's eligible to perform formal internship as per school curriculum
  • Strong background in digital communications and wireless air interfaces (e.g. WiFi, BLE)
  • Familiar with digital receiver design and signal processing techniques
  • Knowledge of wireless positioning methods (e.g. trilateration, angle-of-arrival (AoA), round-trip time (RTT))
  • Very good knowledge of software programming in Matlab (preferably), C or Python
  • Fluent on English (both oral and written)
