Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes the practice of the company "KARIERA SA", with registered address at Gerakas Attica, Kastorias 4 & Messinias, P.C. 15344, with commercial registration (G.E.MI.) number 005366801000 ("Kariera" or "we" or "us"), regarding the collection, use, storage and disclosure of Personal Data (as defined below) provided to us by users of the website www.kariera.gr (the "Website"), during their navigation or when they use the job search services and other services offered by Kariera through the Website (the "Services"). This Privacy Policy is an integral part of the Terms of Use, which are incorporated by reference.

1. Applicable Law

The applicable personal data protection law (the "Applicable Personal Data Protection Law"), consists of the applicable national and EU legislation for the collection, use and disclosure of your Personal Data by us, including Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and the Council (the "Regulation") and Greek Law 4624/2019.

2. Definition of Personal Data

"Personal Data" means information and data relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as date of birth, name, home address, phone number, IP address, etc. We collect, use or disclose your Personal Data in accordance with this Policy and in accordance with Applicable Personal Data Protection Law.

3. Personal Data we collect depending on the purpose of processing

Kariera aims to collect the absolutely necessary Personal Data, which are appropriate, relevant and necessary depending on the purpose for which they are processed.

The Personal Data that Kariera collects from each user of the Website (the "User" or "you"), stores and generally processes varies according to: a) whether the User is an individual or a representative of existing, former or future corporate clients, suppliers and business partners of Kariera ("Business Contacts") and b) the purpose for which the Personal Data was provided (e.g. visiting/browsing the Website, using the Services, sending newsletters/commercial communications, conducting surveys/asking for feedback, creating an account/registering on the Website, communicating with Customer Service, communicating through the chat service, compliance with Kariera's legal obligations). More specifically, Kariera collects - as the case may be - the following Personal Data: A. Personal Data required to create an account/register each User on the Website:

  • Email address (e-mail) / Username
  • Password

The User may, then, insert additional information to complete their profile, including but not limited to the following:

  • Name and surname
  • Home and/or work address
  • Profile picture (only in the following cases: a) if you choose to upload a picture of yourself or b) you register using your Google account, which has - at your option - also a profile picture)

B. Personal Data collected through the Website for the provision of job search services (response to job advertisements or when you choose to have your profile visible to prospective employers looking for staff through the Website):

  • The Personal Data described in the above (A) case as, in order for the User to respond to a job advertisement through the Website or to use the Services as a Business Contact, it is necessary to first create an account on the Website.
  • Curriculum vitae with the personal data included in it (applies only to Users who are prospective employees and not to Business Contacts).

C. Personal Data collected through the Website for the provision of other services (e.g. commercial promotion, sending newsletters/commercial communications, conducting satisfaction surveys, participating in contests, organizing events/workshops/training seminars, communication with Customer Service or via chat) include indicatively the following:

  • Your e-mail address, when you subscribe to the list of recipients of newsletters/commercial communication, in some cases combined with personal data collected with the User's consent (where required) while browsing the Website (see case D) in order to send personalized communication according to the needs/preferences of the User.
  • Your e-mail address, when you choose to take part in a satisfaction survey.
  • Your e-mail address and/or name, when you register for any contests.
  • Your e-mail address and other information requested each time in the participation form that the User fills in to participate in events/workshops/training seminars organized or co-hosted by Kariera.
  • If you contact (in writing or orally) Kariera's Customer Service: we may save your e-mail address and your related correspondence/communication, as well as any information that will be requested from you and is necessary to better serve your request(s).
  • If one of the contact channels provided on the Website is the chat service of a social media platform (e.g. Facebook) or platform of another partner and you choose to contact Customer Service or a recruiter of Kariera through the chat service, some of your Personal Data (e.g. your username, first and last name, information regarding your professional status) will be entered by you and/or your social network and/or partner (if it is necessary to create an account before sending your message). Also, please note that the data you submit to this chat service will be available to the social network platform (e.g. Facebook) or to the partner and is subject to their respective privacy policies, so we recommend that you check your privacy settings and read the privacy policies of social media platforms or partners to obtain more detailed information about the use of your Personal Data when using their chat services. On the date of the last update of this Privacy Policy, Kariera uses on the Website the chat platform provided by the company “Outgrow” (401 Park Ave, 10th Floor, New York 10016), whose Privacy Policy is available here.

D. Personal Data collected while browsing on the Website:

  • Preferences regarding the job search of each User, as long as the User has consented to the use of the corresponding (non-technically necessary) cookies. For more information about cookies, please read Kariera's Cookie Policy.
  • Information about the device the User used to access the Website (such as IP address, device, browser and other operating system type and support information).
  • Pages and URLs that refer Users to the Website and pages and URLs to which Users are exit to once they follow links to other websites operated by third parties available on the Website.
  • Dates and times of visits to the Website.
  • A general geographic location (such as country and city), from which a User accesses the Website.
  • The actions performed by the User while browsing the Website (such as page views, navigation patterns and job view or application activity).
  • Search terms that Users use to reach to the Website.

Kariera does not aim to collect or process special categories of personal data, as defined in the Regulation, and they concern in particular racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs or trade union membership or genetic data, biometric data for the purpose of unique identification of a natural person, health-related data, etc. of the Users.

4. Purposes of personal data processing

Kariera processes Users' Personal Data for the following purposes:

  • Provision of products and Services requested by the User through the Website.
  • Register, manage, maintain and technically support the Users’ accounts on the Website.
  • Store and maintain CVs and other Personal Data posted on the Website or stored in the account by Users.
  • Process, validate and deliver the purchases of Business Contacts (including communication about the purchased Service, by e-mail or telephone, if necessary).
  • Maintain a record of the jobs the User views and/or applies to on the Website.
  • Communicating with Users who have subscribed to the newsletter list and providing information about existing or new services, seminars, actions, educational or other professional development opportunities, etc. These communications will contain unsubscribe links should you decide you do not want to receive further communications.
  • Informing Users, via e-mail, of relevant job postings that may be of interest to them based on each User’s interests as expressed previously through their job search behavior and preferences.
  • Respond to your questions and comments submitted to Customer Care and/or recruiters of Kariera regarding products/Services.
  • Providing administrative notices or communications regarding the use of the Website and/or the User's account.
  • Providing customer support services to Website Users, as well as solving technical problems.
  • Contact the Users and deliver information that, in some cases, is targeted to the User’s interests (such as relevant services, educational or other career development opportunities). These communications will contain unsubscribe links should you decide you do not want to receive further communications.
  • Enable Users to communicate with Kariera through chat, blogs, social networks and other interactive media that Kariera may maintain or use.
  • Carrying out satisfaction/evaluation surveys of Kariera and the Services provided, through the completion by the Users - if they wish - of a corresponding questionnaire or evaluation form sent via e-mail.
  • Management of the User's participation in online (virtual) or live events organized or co-hosted by Kariera from time to time, where the User has signed up for such events and promotions via the Website.
  • Analyze and enhance our marketing communications and strategies.
  • Analyze trends and statistics regarding visitors' use of the Website and social media assets, and the jobs viewed and/or applied to on the Webiste.
  • Analyze trends and statistics about the job market and career mobility.
  • Optimization of the Website in order to better display and rank in the search engine results.
  • Protect against and prevent fraud, unauthorized transactions, claims and other liabilities, and manage risk exposure, including by identifying potential hackers and other unauthorized users.
  • Comply with contractual or legal obligations stemming from applicable legal requirements, court orders, legal proceedings, industry standards and Kariera’s policies.

We may also combine certain non-personally identifiable Aggregate Data (as defined below) or otherwise anonymized or de-identified data about Users and use that data to improve our products and Services. "Aggregate Data" is the demographic or employment information (such as occupation, education and experience) of many individuals combined together. Aggregate Data is used to analyze the characteristics of various populations and does not identify specific individuals. We may also use and share anonymized or non-identifiable data to track labor market trends and the use of our products and Services. We also use third party analytics services to help better understand the use of the Webiste, which is further described in the Cookie Policy.

5. Legal basis for processing Personal Data

For Website Users, the legal basis for the processing of your Personal Data by Kariera is differentiated as follows:

(i) Regarding the registration/creation of an account, the storage/sending of CVs, the submission of job applications by the Users of the Website, the participation in workshops/training seminars, the provision of technical support and the general provision of Services to Users, the legal basis for the processing of Personal Data is the performance of the contract/provision of Services.

(ii) With regard to participation in satisfaction surveys, competitions, the use of certain (non-technically necessary) cookies while browsing on the Website or when Users (whether they have created an account on the Website or not) register to receive marketing e-mails, the legal basis for processing Personal Data is consent.

(iii) Regarding the communication with Customer Service and/or a recruiter of Kariera, we consider that we have legitimate interest in answering the requests or questions raised by you through the existing different contact channels of Kariera (e.g. chat). We understand that the processing of these data is also beneficial to you to the extent that it enables us to assist you effectively, provide you with information and answers to your questions. When you get in touch with us, in order to express your interest in a job advertisement and/or request additional information and/or make an online appointment with a Kariera recruiter through the chat service that may be available on the Website and/or on Kariera's social media profiles, the processing of your Personal Data is necessary for the performance of the contract/provision of our Services. When your question is related to the exercise of your rights (on which we inform you below) or to claims on our services, we process your Personal Data for compliance with our legal obligations.

For Business Contacts who are existing customers, suppliers and business partners of Career, the legal basis for the processing of Personal Data is the performance of the contract between us, unless it is provided for a specific action that the legal basis for the processing of Personal Data is consent or other legal basis.

We may also process Personal Data of Users who are existing customers when it is in our legitimate interests to do so, unless those interests are overridden by the legitimate interest or fundamental rights and freedoms of the person to whom the Personal Data relates. Our legitimate interests include, but are not limited to, marketing, selling and providing our products and Services, developing and improving the products and Services, understanding the behavior, activities, preferences and needs of our Users.

Finally, we may process Personal Data of the Users when necessary to protect and prevent fraud, as well as comply with industry standards, applicable law (including but not limited to Applicable Personal Data Protection Law), for example, we may be required to disclose User Personal Data pursuant to a court order, prosecutorial order or order or decision of another administrative body with legal authority to compel the disclosure of such information. If we have reasonable grounds to believe that User Personal Data could be useful in the investigation of improper or illegal activity, we may disclose such information to law enforcement agencies or other competent authorities.

6. Recipients of personal data

We share Personal Data we collect from Users (including CVs) with third party employers, recruiters and other companies/customers who purchase our Services. When, for example, a User applies for a job with a company through the Website, the Personal Data provided by the User may be stored in that company's database. Likewise, if a company 'downloads' a User's CV from Kariera's CV database (provided that the User has activated the corresponding function in their account), the Personal Data collected may be stored in that company's database. In these cases, Kariera shares the personal data as a data controller to another independent data controller. Therefore, the use of this data by the company/client is subject to the privacy policy of that company and Kariera bears no responsibility for the processing and use of the above Personal Data by the said company/client. Companies/clients may use your Personal Data to contact you directly about submitted job applications or to recommend jobs that may be of interest to you.

It is noted that, even when Kariera acts as a service provider (data controller) for its customers (data controllers), Kariera does not process or store Personal Data in any way other than that defined by its capacity as data controller. Accordingly, Kariera does not share, process or in any way use Personal Data to serve a commercial purpose that is inconsistent with this Privacy Policy and Applicable Personal Data Protection Law.

In the normal course of providing Services to our customers, Personal Data may be shared within Kariera and its partners to the extent necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, as well as for research and statistical analysis purposes.

We may also share your Personal Data with service providers who help us provide our own products and Services. The service providers we use provide us indicatively with the following categories of services: Code Hosting, Code Development, Logger, Search Engine, Email Processing, Server Hosting, Web Hosting, Cloud Hosting, Cloud Storage, Delivery Email, Email Marketing, Analytics Technology, E-Commerce Processing, Data Matching Technology, Chat etc. These service providers are required by contract and by law to use or disclose Personal Data as necessary to provide services on our behalf or as otherwise required by law. In the event that we become aware that a service provider is using, processing or disclosing Personal Data in a manner inconsistent with this Privacy Policy or Applicable Personal Data Protection Law, Kariera undertakes to take all reasonable steps to prevent or stop the inappropriate use, the illegal processing and/or disclosure of the data.

We may place links on the Website to other websites operated by third parties. When you "click" on these links or otherwise visit, participate in or use the services or websites of other parties, whether or not they contain our trade name, trademarks and other intellectual property rights, together with those of third party operating the respective website, you should know and be aware that we do not control the business practices of those parties and that this Policy does not apply to those other parties or their websites.

In some cases, pursuant to our agreement with a Business Contact, we may disclose Personal Data to one or more subcontractors contracted to provide services to the Business Contact on our behalf in order to provide services to the Business Contact.

Kariera reserves the right to disclose, without your prior consent, any personal information about you or your use of the Site if doing so is deemed necessary to: (a) protect and defend the rights of Kariera, its employees or others; Users of the Website or the public, (b) the enforcement of the Website Terms of Use, (c) its compliance with a court order, legally valid request of a competent governmental authority, regulation or applicable law, or (d) to respond to allegations that any content violates the rights of third parties or (e) for its contribution to the investigation or prevention of illegal behavior (e.g. fraud). We may also disclose Personal Data as we deem necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request.

Finally, Personal Data collected by Kariera may be transferred to third parties in the event of a transfer of ownership or assets or bankruptcy or other corporate reorganization of Kariera.

7. Transfer of personal data to a third country

The personal data collected by Kariera is stored in a data center of a third party provider located in Europe and is processed in Europe, but may also be processed in the United States of America and/or other countries outside of Europe, where Kariera or its partners, affiliates or third party service providers operate or maintain their facilities. Kariera ensures that such partners, affiliates or third party service providers are covered by an appropriate framework or contract recognized by competent authorities or courts as providing an adequate level of protection for Personal Data.

By using the Website you hereby affirmatively consent to the processing of your Personal Data in countries outside of Europe. Should you withdraw this consent, you should delete your account and you agree that you will not use or visit the Website subsequent to your withdrawal of such consent.

8. Cookies

We use cookies to provide you with the best possible browsing experience on the Website. You can find more information about cookies in Kariera's Cookie Policy.

9. Retention Period

Personal Data is kept by Kariera for as long as it is deemed necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected and which are expressly defined in this Policy. In particular, the data collected to create an account (User registration), CV and job applications are stored and kept in Kariera's database until the date on which the contract between the User and Kariera expires or until the User asks us to delete their account on the Website or to delete some or all of their Personal Data.

For the retention period of data collected by cookies, you can refer to the Cookie Policy. Personal Data used to send e-mails with job recommendations or advertising e-mails are kept until the User unsubscribes from the respective list of recipients (via the "unsubscribe" option) or requests from Kariera the deletion of all their Personal Data.

Professional contact information for Business Contacts is retained until they ask us to delete their data. All other Personal Data relating to Business Contacts who are existing customers, suppliers and business partners is stored until the contract between us ends or as otherwise provided by applicable law.

10. Rights of data subjects

As the subject of Personal Data, you retain the rights detailed in the Regulation, including the following rights: access (Article 15), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), restriction (Article 18), filing a complaint with the Data Protection Authority (Article 77).

Regarding the right to withdraw your consent regarding the processing of your Personal data: we would like to emphasize that you can withdraw your consent at any time, without prejudice to the lawfulness of the processing based on your consent before its withdrawal. After consent is withdrawn, Kariera will not be able to continue to provide you with the Services, if the legal basis for providing them is your consent. Regarding the submission of an erasure request, we would like to inform you that, once your request is fulfilled, we will: a) Stop using and making your Personal Data available to third parties (unless otherwise provided or required by law). b) Delete all your Personal Data from our databases, except for that contained in electronic messages, correspondence or other documents that we may retain in order to be able to prove the terms of our contractual relationship with you or as otherwise provided by the applicable law.

We inform you that, even in case of successful deletion of your account, if you had activated the option to make your profile visible to potential employers and/or had submitted one or more job applications through the Website, recruiters and Business Contacts who have paid to access our databases may have retained in their own records or databases a copy of your CV or other Personal Data that you have shared with them or that you have posted to your account prior to its deletion. We cannot control the privacy policy implemented by third parties (including retention time, usage, etc.) with respect to CVs or generally Personal Data of registered Users obtained from third parties.

Please help us keep your data accurate by regularly updating your account information.

11. Exercise of Users' rights

You can access, update and modify your Personal Data of your account on the Website or remove your CV from our CV database at any time by logging into your account and making the necessary changes.

If you wish to exercise any of your rights described in paargraph 10 and are unable to do so in accordance with the above, please submit a corresponding request to Kariera via the contact form and Kariera will take in into consideration the soonest possible. Kariera undertakes to respond without delay and in any case within one (1) month of receipt of the request.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We update this Privacy Policy whenever necessary to reflect changes mandated by Applicable Personal Data Protection Law and/or changes in Kariera's Personal Data policies. If we make any material change to this Privacy Policy, we will notify Users by any convenient means (e.g. by sending an e-mail or by posting on the Website).

In any case, the latest update of the Privacy Policy is indicated at the beginning of this Policy. We encourage Users to visit the Website periodically in order to be informed of any changes to our Privacy Policy.
