The Pastry Commis is responsible for supporting the Pastry Chef and senior pastry staff in the preparation, production, and presentation of all pastry, bakery, and dessert items. This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to develop their skills in pastry arts under the guidance of experienced professionals in a high-quality restaurant environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Pastry Chef in the preparation of pastries, desserts, breads, and other baked goods according to established recipes and standards.
- Prepare and measure ingredients accurately, ensuring mise-en-place is complete before service.
- Assist with basic pastry tasks such as mixing doughs, portioning, decorating, and plating desserts.
- Follow instructions from senior pastry staff to ensure all items are produced to the highest quality standards.
- Assist in the assembly and presentation of pastry items and dessert plates.
- Learn and strictly follow food handling, hygiene, and safety guidelines applicable to the pastry section.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the pastry kitchen, equipment, and storage areas.
- Assist in receiving, checking, and correctly storing pastry ingredients and supplies.
- Operate pastry kitchen equipment under supervision and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Work collaboratively with the pastry team and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and coordinated operations.
- Adhere to hygiene and sanitation practices to ensure food safety within the pastry section.
- Contribute to maintaining high-quality standards in pastry preparation and presentation.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow within the pastry profession.
Skills, Experience & Educational Requirements
- Previous experience in a pastry kitchen or culinary environment is advantageous.
- Basic understanding of pastry techniques, food safety, and sanitation.
- Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a team, and handle multiple tasks.
- Willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibilities in the pastry kitchen
- Fluency in Greek and English; additional languages are a plus
- Culinary Degree in Pastry Arts or equivalent certification
- Food safety training and certification required.
