About the role

We are looking to hire a competent Marine Manager to join our team. Reporting to the CEO, you will act as the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and ensure that the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) is effectively implemented and maintained. You will also be responsible for all HSQE aspects of the Company’s and fleet operations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Present ISM and SMS matters to the company’s top management and gain sustained support for the improvement of SMS.
  • Develop and update the Company’s policies and procedures in coordination with the CEO and management.
  • Ensure that the establishment, implementation ashore and onboard, and maintenance of the SMS align with the ISM Code and the applicable ISO standard.
  • Ensure each ship's safe operation and provide a link between the Company and those onboard.
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure outcome is shared with shore and sea staff.
  • Suggest changes to reduce the chance of error and improve conditions that make errors more likely.
  • Verify that seafarers and office employees understand the purpose of SMS and the necessity of being familiarized with it and provide guidance on any SMS issues.
  • Help develop an open learning culture where all feel free and safe to speak up about concerns and errors.
  • Promote a safety culture across the company.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualification from a tertiary institution recognized by the Administration or by the RO, within a relevant field of management, engineering or physical science.
  • Formal education combined with a minimum of 3 years of practical senior-level experience in Ship management operations.
  • Minimum qualification of Class 2 (1st Mate) COC and seagoing experience as a C/O, according to the STCW.
  • Trained as per IMO MSC-MEPC.7/ Circ.6 “Guidance on the qualification, training and experience necessary for undertaking the role of the Designated Person under the provisions of the ISM Code”.
  • Well-established experience in the implementation of Management Systems in shipping.
  • Fluency in Greek and English.
  • Good knowledge of the national and international shipping legislation.
  • Excellent communication and attention to detail skills.
  • Advanced Computer literacy.
