The University of Nicosia invites applications for UNIC Athens Campus for two Laboratory Officer (Technician) positions to support the day-to-day operation of teaching laboratories for the Pharmacy Programme. The role ensures laboratories are safe, compliant, well-prepared, and fully operational for practical sessions, working closely with academic and administrative staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and research laboratory support
- Prepare laboratories for practical classes (set-up of equipment, materials, reagents/solutions as instructed).
- Provide operational support during laboratory sessions (as required).
- Follow laboratory protocols, SOPs, and methodological instructions for routine tasks.
- Support research facilities by coordinating access/scheduling, maintaining usage logs, and assisting with routine set-up and maintenance of shared equipment.
Inventory, procurement, and records
- Maintain an accurate inventory database for equipment, consumables, chemicals and reagents (including SDS/MSDS where applicable).
- Track stock levels, usage, and replenishment (min/max stock; batch/expiry monitoring where relevant).
- Request quotations and support purchasing processes (orders, deliveries, receiving, documentation).
- Maintain records for fixed assets and consumables; support periodic audits/stock takes.
Equipment maintenance and facilities
- Maintain equipment service logs, calibration/verification records, and coordinate servicing with suppliers.
- Support basic troubleshooting and escalation to vendors/engineers.
- Ensure laboratory spaces and storage areas are organised, clean, and audit-ready.
Health, safety, and compliance
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, risk controls, and University policies.
- Support safe chemical handling, labelling, storage, and waste segregation/disposal (chemical/biological/sharps as applicable).
- Report incidents/near misses and support corrective actions with supervisors.
Scheduling and coordination
- Support scheduling of laboratories/practical sessions and coordination with lab staff (as assigned).
- Provide administrative assistance related to laboratory operations and teaching delivery.
Essential Qualifications
- BSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences/Pharmacy, or closely related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively in Greek and English (written and spoken).
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive/SharePoint).
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable (Advantage)
- Experience in a laboratory environment (academic, clinical, industrial, QC/analytical).
- Experience with inventory systems, procurement processes, and vendor coordination.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety, SOPs, risk assessments, and documentation practices.
- Experience supporting teaching labs or student practical sessions.
