The Senior Cloud Engineer is a technical leader within the Cloud Engineering organization, responsible for designing, building, and evolving secure, scalable, and highly automated cloud platforms across a multi-cloud environment. This role plays a critical part in defining cloud standards, reference architectures, and engineering best practices that enable product teams to deliver reliable, well architected solutions at scale.
The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on cloud engineering expertise, strong Infrastructure as Code and automation skills, and the ability to influence platform direction through technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural contributions.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Cloud Engineering & Architecture
- Design, implement, and evolve cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP, aligning with enterprise architecture principles and security standards.
- Lead the development and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar tools, ensuring consistency, scalability, and reusability.
- Own and enhance reusable cloud modules, patterns, and reference architectures used across the organization.
- Partner with architects and senior stakeholders to define secure, resilient, and cost‑efficient cloud designs.
- Review and provide guidance on cloud designs and IaC contributions from other engineers.
Platform Automation & Tooling
- Design and implement end‑to‑end automation for cloud provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
- Lead improvements to CI/CD and IaC automation pipelines using platforms such as Spacelift, GitHub Actions, or equivalent tooling.
- Drive initiatives to improve deployment reliability, reduce configuration drift, and increase platform self‑service.
- Evaluate and introduce new tooling or approaches that improve developer experience and platform maturity.
Security, Compliance & Operations
- Define and enforce cloud guardrails, policies, and controls to ensure secure and compliant platforms.
- Integrate security and compliance requirements into IaC and automation workflows (policy as code).
- Establish and improve observability, monitoring, and alerting for cloud platforms.
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex cloud infrastructure issues and perform root cause analysis for incidents.
- Collaborate with security, risk, and compliance teams to support audits, regulatory requirements, and governance initiatives.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a technical mentor for Cloud Engineers, supporting skill development and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate closely with application teams, SRE, security, and architecture to deliver end‑to‑end cloud solutions.
- Drive platform modernization initiatives, identifying opportunities to automate, optimize, standardize, and simplify.
- Contribute to technical documentation, standards, and knowledge sharing to uplift cloud engineering maturity.
- Participate in architectural discussions and influence platform strategy through well‑reasoned technical proposals.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on cloud or platform engineering experience.
- Strong proficiency in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP), with production scale experience.
- Advanced experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform strongly preferred).
- Strong automation and scripting skills (Python strongly preferred).
- Deep understanding of cloud networking, identity, security, and cloud native services.
- Experience working in global, cross functional engineering environments.
- Ability to lead technical initiatives and make architectural decisions.
- Technically curious, self driven, and committed to continuous improvement.
- Strong problem solving and analytical mindset, especially for complex cloud systems.
- Comfortable operating with high ownership and autonomy.
- Able to influence technical direction and mentor others through collaboration and clear communication.
- Customer focused mindset with the ability to balance engineering excellence and business outcomes.
