The Network Automation Engineer will design, build, and maintain automation services that support Pfizer's global network infrastructure. This role focuses on developing scalable solutions to monitor, manage, and optimize network performance and usage, ensuring high availability and operational efficiency across all environments.
By applying software engineering principles to network operations, the engineer will create and support automation platforms that reduce manual effort, enhance reliability, and enable proactive issue resolution. The role also involves continuous improvement of automation workflows, integration with observability tools, and close collaboration with SREs, NREs and infrastructure teams to deliver resilient network services.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) for network automation solutions-from design and development to deployment, monitoring, and support.
- Develop and maintain network monitoring tools to ensure visibility, performance, and reliability across Pfizer's network infrastructure.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with network engineering, operations, and audit teams to gather requirements, align on processes, and deliver automation solutions that meet organizational needs.
- Analyze network and service data to drive data-informed decisions that enhance service quality, reduce incidents, and improve operational efficiency.
- Design and implement proof-of-concept solutions that demonstrate and expand the capabilities of network automation within the enterprise.
- Apply an "everything-as-code" approach to infrastructure, configuration, and orchestration-ensuring systems are production-ready, fault-tolerant, and resilient by design.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or STEM related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering or network automation role.
- Strong knowledge in Python and at least one other programming language (e.g. Java, C#, JavaScript, GO).
- Demonstrated experience with network automation tools and libraries.
- Strong Scripting skills (BASH, Powershell, Go, Ruby etc.)
- Proficiency in version control systems and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and practices (e.g. Terraform, Ansible).
- Experience in programmatically analyzing network incidents and developing automated remediation solutions.
- Experience with Network Performance Monitoring, Planning, and Configuration Management tools.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools
- Associate level Industry certifications (CCNA, DEVASC, CCSA, or equivalent expertise)
- Familiarity with F5 Load Balancers
- Experience in any of the following Cisco/Meraki/SDWAN, Catalyst, Nexus, AireOS
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Grafana, Tableau
- Experience working in Agile environments, preferably with Scrum methodology with a focus on continuous improvement and delivery.
- Professional certifications in network engineering, automation, or cloud services (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect) will be considered plus
