ROLE SUMMARY
The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) team supports Pfizer's technology infrastructure services, ensuring highly available and secure communications throughout the corporation and with external partner organizations. EP&S secures Pfizer's most important information assets through world class protections that enable rather than limit critical business operations. As part of the Pfizer Digital organization, the EP&S team is a key enabler in Pfizer's ongoing digital transformation.
The WAN and DMZ Engineering Practice Lead is a crucial role within the Global Network Engineering (GNE) team responsible for the Wide Area Network (WAN) and DMZ activities globally. They are responsible for coordinating appropriate resourcing to primarily support the WAN/DMZ Service Owners, support change activity which is associated with business (GWS & ACD), Digital or internal EP&S driven changes. Specific duties will include administrative and talent management for WAN/DMZ Network Engineers, management of escalation support for Network Operations, interfacing with business liaisons to ensure stability of our network services in collaboration with Service Owners, communicate & coordinate change activities and outages, determine impact of a service outage, provide oversight during major change events, and facilitate Agile backlog management.
This role requires strong network engineering and management skills with the ability to communicate complex issues with senior leaders.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set and define Practice vision, mission and scope.
- Create, measure, and refine measures of success.
- Synchronize the Practice Vision with relevant Service Owners and leadership.
- Own the Practice operating model and backlog for development of shared approaches, tools, artifacts (as relevant), and facilitate the management of the Service Owner's backlogs.
- Staff Practice members to teams and coordinate relevant details (e.g., cost, utilization), enabling members to move seamlessly between teams.
- Drive Practice knowledge development.
- Create paths for expert development of Practice members.
- Drive knowledge maintenance within Practice.
- Disseminate knowledge within the organization (incl. cross pollination).
- Build a culture of continuous learning, discovery, accountability and ownership within the Practice, facilitate training programs to develop Practice expertise, and support professional growth of members.
- Manage Practice funding and monitor adherence to all financial / business targets - incl. competency needs across the Lines/Groups.
- Advocate for Agile and the Practice in the broader enterprise as needed.
- Provide oversight for all WAN/DMZ services and changes within the environment in collaboration with Service Owners.
- Adopt WAN/DMZ connectivity changes to address new business requirements or challenges.
- Collaborate with GWS, PGS and AC&D teams to support any connectivity changes within the region, this includes a technical design, cost models, delivery estimates and general oversight.
- Coordinate network failover testing with Digital site leads at critical facilities within the region.
- Coordinate complex routing changes (internal and external) as well as security modifications to align to standards.
- Coordinate and support telco bandwidth upgrades.
- Perform capacity and optimization analysis with NetOps for sites that are experiencing connectivity challenges.
- Support the development of WAN/DMZ design standards in collaboration with Service Owners and the other engineers.
- Provide engineering-level support for Network Operations, including maintenance activities and off-hour support.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity or engineering.
- 7+ years of experience working in a business/corporate environment working in a network capacity.
- Demonstrated experience managing resources to effect change within the environment, colleagues, contractors, or MSP resources to affect change in the environment.
- Demonstrated experience with IP routing and the different protocols in a large IP network.
- Demonstrated experience in provisioning of MPLS networks and services.
- Demonstrated experience in secure SD-WAN design and operations.
- Solid understanding of IP protocols/service/functionality (DNS, VPN/Tunnels, VLANs, NAT, Firewalls, LACP, 802.1Q trunking, VRRP), Knowledge of Layer-2 network technologies including Ethernet WAN, Knowledge of IP related protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP-4, OMP, and MPLS.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot/debug issues, determine causes, and drive resolution.
- Experience with SD-WAN Cloud design and components.
- Experience in the implementation and operation of SD-WAN equipment.
- Ability to create Low Level Designs (LLDs) engineering documents associated with the deployment, integration, or decommissioning of Pfizer Network equipment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in related technical field or business.
- Cisco certifications - CCNP or higher.
- Experience working within an Agile environment.
- Possess skills necessary to evaluate IP network components.
- Manage WAN associated processes and maintain up-to-date and accurate procedural documentation through collaboration with other engineering teams.
- A working knowledge of ITIL framework.
- Willingness to contribute fresh and innovative ideas.
