Financial institutions face a period of unprecedented regulatory change in terms of the number of new initiatives, their complexity and the interplay between different regulations.

 

Against this backdrop, Deloitte has created a Financial Risk Management team to assist clients in developing, validating and implementing credit risk and market risk models. This team assists financial institutions across the Model Risk Management lifecycle and is widely regarded in the market place as the leading Credit Risk Modelling team.

 

The primary objective our team is to design, build, implement and validate both credit and traded risk models within the financial services industry, advising and influencing clients on how best to deliver value in the face of an ever increasing and complex regulatory agenda.

In response to the growing demand for the team’s services from internal and external clients, we are looking for new colleagues to join us to drive forward the model development and model risk management agenda.

#YourRole

You will work collaboratively with the wider Financial Risk Measurement team and our clients. The role requires flexibility to tackle a wide range of tasks:

 

  • Contribute to all aspects of credit and traded risk model development and deployment including design, coding, testing, validation and review. The most common types of credit risk models worked on by the team are operational scorecards, IRB capital models for Pillar 1 Credit Risk, IFRS 9 impairment models, forecasting models and stress testing models.
  • Help deliver projects to evaluate, design and implement policies, procedures and strategies to effectively deploy and execute risk models and processes, consistent with regulatory requirements and/or market practice across credit risk model delivery.
    Perform reviews of risk model deployment and execution frameworks, including gathering business requirements, assessing conceptual designs, examining governance and controls, and testing outcomes.
  • Help the team expand its range of services and solutions in the market place, considering operations, analytics and target operating model considerations for clients, plus how to deliver with third party providers.
  • Keep up to date with academic, technical and industry developments in the field of credit and traded risk management, deployment and implementation.
  • Applicants will need to be able to review large volumes of information quickly and efficiently in order to identify and disseminate the key points in a coherent manner.
  • Applicants should be also committed to building long-term professional relationships with clients and key stakeholders, working with our senior management team to develop industry contacts. Candidates should also share our firm’s commitment to creating and maintaining a respectful and inclusive culture.

 

#WinningRequirements

To qualify for the role you should have:

  • An academic background in Mathematics, Engineering or Quantitative Finance which must include stochastic calculus (a Masters degree in a relevant quantitative/finance discipline or Professional qualification such as PRMIA, GARP, CFA would be an advantage).
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and statistical coding packages (e.g. Python, R, SAS).
  • Experience in Financial Maths (ex. Derivatives, pricing, risk modelling etc.)
  • Proficient in English to be able to support international clients.
  • Knowledge of risk management fundamentals (Basel regulation, standardized vs advanced approaches, risk parameters etc.) is an advantage.
  • A strong work ethic and a professional and personable demeanor.
    High personal standards with respect to the quality of your own work.
    The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team, furthering common goals and working within demanding deadlines.
    High motivation, with a proven track record and ability to work on own initiative within a challenging/dynamic work environment.
    Interpersonal and influencing skills, including strong oral and written communication of technical concepts to a non-technical audience.

Model Risk Management

Recognizing the need for cost-effective, value-add model validations, we help clients conduct specialist reviews an annual validations of their models with a particular focus on prioritizing the material issues and communicating issues clearly to Board-level audiences. We increasingly offer model validations as a managed services using our global network of modelling SMEs. As part of the wider task of model management, we also help firms upgrade their credit risk technologies (systems, data and controls) as well as helping them in the careful deployment of artificial intelligence in model builds.
