Assistant Financial Accountant (Mid-level, 3-5 years’ experience)
Role
We are seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant to join our Finance team in Athens. The ideal candidate will bring either 3 years of experience in the travel industry or 5 years of general accounting experience, specifically in Accounts Payable. As part of a highly motivated team your main role is to perform accounting transactions accurately through timely preparation of journal entries & account reconciliations, under limited supervision.
Main Responsibilities
- Day-to-day maintenance of an accurate supplier ledger, ensuring timely and correct recording of
- Invoice processing and support in supplier-related issues (e.g. clarifications, payment status updates).
- Reconciliation of supplier accounts, including follow-up on outstanding balances and coordination of payment schedules.
- Entry and coding of supplier invoices and general office operating expenses.
- Application of cost accounting practices, including matching invoices to purchase orders and budget controls.
- Investigation and resolution of invoice discrepancies or mismatches between services received and billed.
- Preparation of ad hoc and comparative reports on supplier performance or cost trends, as requested.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Accounts Payable or Supplier Accounting is required.
- Prior experience in the Travel industry or related sector will be highly appreciated.
- Solid understanding of ledger maintenance, invoice processing, and reconciliation practices.
- Strong financial & analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work constructively within a team and foster a positive work environment.
- Proficient in MS Office applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Greek and English.
- Creative thinking, problem solving with ability to meet and maintain required performance standards.
- Capacity to work independently, while staying aligned with company policies and departmental goals.
