The University of Nicosia invites applications for the role of IT Supervisor to lead the campus IT operations. This is a middle-management role reporting to the central IT department at our Headquarters. The IT Supervisor will oversee all local IT activities – from network management and information security to enforcement of University IT policies – ensuring the smooth and secure functioning of the campus’s technology infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have cloud computing experience (AWS preferred) and strong team leadership skills to manage a small IT support team. This role offers the opportunity to build a cutting-edge IT environment.
*Subject to meeting all regulatory and legal requirements in Cyprus and Greece.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network & Infrastructure Management: Oversee the campus IT infrastructure, including local networks (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi), servers, and connectivity. Ensure reliable network performance and proper configuration/patching of all network devices in line with the University’s standards. Coordinate with the Headquarters IT team on enterprise network architecture and major IT projects to align campus systems with global standards.
- Information Security & Policy Enforcement: Implement and monitor security measures
- (firewalls, IDS/IPS, antivirus, etc.) to protect University data and systems. Establish and enforce campus IT policies and procedures (in coordination with the central InfoSec team) to ensure compliance with university-wide IT governance and security standards. Regularly review systems for vulnerabilities and enforce adherence to EU regulations, standards and best practices in data privacy and IT usage.
- Cloud Services Management: Manage and utilize cloud-based infrastructure for the campus’s
- IT needs. Since much of our IT environment is in the cloud, ensure effective use of cloud services (with a strong preference for AWS) for campus operations. Oversee the integration of cloud resources (servers, storage, SaaS applications) and coordinate with cloud providers or the HQ team for any advanced support. (Experience with AWS is highly valued, though familiarity with Azure or Google Cloud is also acceptable for this role.)
- SaaS and Systems Support: Oversee local support and maintenance for the University’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications and cloud systems in use at the Athens campus. Work together with Headquarters IT to deploy updates, maintain licensing, and ensure these applications (e.g. BlackBoard learning management systems, email, collaboration tools) run smoothly for campus users.
- End-User Support Management: Organize and supervise IT support for students, faculty, and researchers, ensuring a high level of customer service. Manage the helpdesk or support ticket system for the Athens campus and provide hands-on assistance when needed to promptly resolve technical issues. The IT Supervisor will ensure that all user queries are addressed in a timely manner and that recurring problems are analyzed and solved. (For example, you will analyze and resolve end-user hardware/software issues in a timely fashion and provide training or guidance to users as required.)
- Team Leadership and Training: Lead a small team of IT support staff/assistants at the Athens campus. This includes delegating tasks, setting work schedules, and mentoring junior IT personnel. Provide training to new IT team members and ongoing coaching to ensure the team is knowledgeable about the University’s IT systems and follows best practices. Foster a collaborative and professional team environment and evaluate the performance of direct reports.
- Coordination with Headquarters: Act as the primary liaison between the Athens campus and the University’s central IT department. Communicate campus IT needs and incidents to HQ and implement directives or new initiatives from HQ at the campus level. You will coordinate on larger projects (such as major network upgrades or security audits) with Head Office teams to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Future Initiatives (HPC/Big Data/ASI): Plan for and support future advanced computing initiatives at the Athens campus. As the campus grows, it will incorporate high-performance computing (HPC) resources, big data platforms, and AGI/ASI supported scientific research IT facilities. The IT Supervisor will collaborate with research faculty and the HQ team to integrate these resources. Any prior experience with HPC clusters, big data analytics, AI or research computing support will be a plus, as you’ll eventually oversee the interface between these facilities and the University’s broader IT infrastructure.
