Key Responsibilities

  • Cable Drop Installation: Deploy fiber optic drop cables from the Toby box (street-level distribution point) to individual buildings, ensuring proper routing, tension, and protection using microduct bundles or cable protection tubes in coordination with Phase A civil works
  • Splicing in DP Boxes: Perform high-precision fiber optic splicing in distribution point (DP) boxes using fusion splicers (e.g., Fujikura 90S), connecting drop cables to main feeder cables, and ensuring low signal loss (≤0.2 dB per splice) for reliable connectivity to 2–3 buildings/day.
  • Wall-Mounted Box Installation: Install and secure wall-mounted termination boxes (e.g., optical network terminals or ONT enclosures) on exterior home walls, ensuring weatherproofing, proper grounding, and accessibility for Phase C teams to extend cables indoors.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct end-to-end testing of fiber connections using Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) and power meters to verify signal integrity, troubleshoot faults (e.g., cable breaks, high attenuation), and ensure compliance with project quality standards.
  • Coordination with Teams: Collaborate with Phase A civil teams to align cable drop schedules with trenching operations and with Phase C teams to ensure wall-mounted boxes meet indoor connection requirements.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Adhere to Greek IKA/EFKA social security regulations and maintain daily logs of splicing, testing, and installation activities, reporting progress or issues to the Team Lead for client updates.
  • Site Assessments: Assist in evaluating building access points, exterior wall conditions, and utility layouts during site visits, coordinating with local partners, clients, residents to address permitting or heritage restrictions in Crete.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and calibration of splicing and testing equipment, ensuring operational readiness and minimizing downtime in urban work environments.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide limited customer education on wall-mounted box functionality during installations, ensuring clear handoff to Phase C teams for indoor work, while maintaining professionalism in Crete’s tourism-sensitive areas.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • 1-2+ years of experience in FTTH or telecom OSP/ISP projects, with expertise in fiber optic splicing, cable drop installation, and termination box setup.
    • Proficiency with fusion splicers (e.g., Fujikura 90S), OTDRs, power meters, and cable preparation tools (e.g., strippers, cleavers).
    • Knowledge of FTTH infrastructure, including microduct bundles, cable protection tubes, and wall-mounted ONT enclosures.
    • Basic understanding of grounding and low-voltage electrical work for wall-mounted box installations.
