Supplier Quality Engineer

Purpose and Objective

  • Responsible to promote the development, qualification, and management of suppliers in order to achieve supplier performance KPI’s and ensure defect free material supplied to L+G manufacturing aligned with on-time delivery
  • Develop plans and manage Green Belt Level quality process improvement activities
  • Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Apply fundamental quality standards and procedures for processing materials into partially finished or finished products at subcontractors
  • Maintain, present, and act upon subcontractor quality metrics

Key Performance Indicators

Drive the successful achievement of all relevant KPIs:

  • Supplier Rolled Thru-put Yield (RTY)
  • Supplier PPM Performance
  • SCAR TAT
  • Management of Blocked Inventory Dollars
  • Complete and Timely PPAP Submission/Review

All planned and agreed supplier audits are performed on time and all Findings/Observations are managed to closure per schedule.

Key Areas of Responsiblity

  • Act as a technical liaison with the contract manufacturers for product quality. This includes participating in direct supplier communications, on-site/remote audits, review and management of supplier metrics, quality issue resolution, and any other items that directly relate to product quality.
  • Work seamlessly across applicable departments to ensure full visibility of process and potential critical issues and drive effective solutions, if needed trigger escalation process.
  • Understand and clearly define problems, collect fundamental data, establish facts, recommend actions, and drive for resolution at the source.
  • Facilitate/Execute root cause analysis as required.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reacting to fundamental quality data created from implemented manufacturing quality plans at the subcontractors.
  • Create and present necessary reports to manage supplier KPIs and other quality initiatives.
  • Utilize quality tools and techniques such as PPAP, PFMEA, Control Plans, DMAIC, Six Sigma, pareto analysis, Ishikawa diagrams, Cpk, SPC, and 8D/SCAR/CAPA for continuously improving the supplier’s manufacturing processes.
  • Assist workers engaged in receiving, measuring, and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product or process quality and reliability.
  • Conduct Supplier Audits/Vendor Assessments and manage findings/observations to closure.
  • Train/Support suppliers in Landis+Gyr PPAP requirements.
  • Drive supplier PPAP submissions associated with NPI, ECO and supplier transfers (PPAP Quality Plan, Define requirements, Review, and Approve).
  • Lead cross-functional Trend Management efforts to address top supplier induced issues through on-going continuous improvement activities such as: Kaizen, Six-Sigma, Lean, etc.
  • Actively participate in MRB disposition for applicable suppliers and lead RMA efforts with that supplier.
  • Responsible for review and approval of applicable ECO’s/Deviations.
  • Actively contribute to effective communication to customers as required.
  • Must be willing to travel as required approximately 15% of time.
  • Any other specific work activity assigned by manager.
  • Work according to the I.M.S.  (Integrated Management System) which includes ISO 9K, 18K, 14K, 27K and 22301 as applicable.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial Engineering
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Six-Sigma Green Belt Tool Competency
  • Capable of reading and understanding technical documents
  • Strong understanding of statistics as related to manufacturing process control: Control Charts, Cpk, SPC, MiniTab 6-Pack
  • Strong knowledge in Lean, Six-Sigma, DMAIC, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, 8D, CAPA, SCAR, Gage R&R
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: PCBA, Molding, Stamping, Die Cast, Assembly, Testing, others
  • Knowledge of measurement tools and techniques (vernier, height gage, optical comparator, multimeter, LCR, gages, oscilloscope, CMM, 3D Scan, etc.)
  • Knowledge and ability to perform root cause analysis at raw material, sub-assembly, assembly levels for mechanical/electrical products
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet timelines
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to drive to final resolution
  • GD&T/IPC-A-610 as applicable
  • ESD Control
