Role Overview

The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing maintenance, energy efficiency, and the safety of all facilities. They oversee technical teams and ensure compliance with regulations and quality standards.

 

 Key Responsibilities:

 

  1. Ensuring Compliance with Safety Regulations:
  • Oversee all safety protocols related to electrical, mechanical, fire safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
  1. Energy Management and Sustainability Initiatives:
  • Implement energy-saving measures and oversee energy consumption monitoring.
  • Promote environmentally sustainable practices within maintenance operations.

 

 

  1. Budget Development and Cost Control:
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget & action plan.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  1. Equipment and Asset Management:
  • Oversee the lifecycle management of all hotel equipment and assets.
  • Plan for equipment upgrades, replacements, and capital expenditure needs.
  1. Emergency Preparedness and Response:
  • Develop and coordinate emergency response plans related to technical failures, fires, floods, or other disasters.
  • Ensure all staff are trained in emergency procedures.
  1. Vendor and Contract Management:
  • Negotiate and oversee contracts with suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Evaluate performance and ensure quality standards are met.
  1. Technology and Systems Maintenance:
  • Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of HVAC, security systems, elevators, lighting, and other technical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with IT teams for high-tech systems like guest room automation, Wi-Fi, and communication systems.
  1. Guest Satisfaction and Property Appearance:
  • Ensure all maintenance work maintains or elevates guest experience and property aesthetics.
  • Respond promptly to guest requests affecting comfort and safety.

 

  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and safety inspections.
  • Prepare reports for management on the status of facilities and ongoing projects.
  • Maintain and update all files and records regarding ISO 9001 procedures, Marriott International Inc audit and any other audit relevant to technical issues.
  1. Training and Development:
  • Continuously train maintenance staff in new technologies, safety standards, and best practices.
  • Develop a culture of proactive maintenance and continuous improvement.
  1. Opening and Closing Procedures
  • Plan and coordinate all Pre-Opening and Closing Procedures related to technical issues for each property

 

Requirements:

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineer Degree
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Chief Engineer in a 5 star Hotel of an International or local Hotel Company
  • Excellent knowledge of HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems.
  • Good English & Greek language with the ability to write and speak effectively
  • Excellent user of Microsoft Office Suite, Windows and Internet
  • Ability to coordinate effectively and motivate a team, towards the achievement of important organizational goals
