Claims Handler

This role has two main elements, the principal tasks for which are as follows.

Claims Handling

  1. To undertake allocated claims and related tasks to provide optimal claims services to clients.
  2. To liaise with Clients, their Insured and other third parties in the maritime community, both locally and internationally, as required by the Principal.
  3. To provide advice or recommendations to Clients on claims handling strategy to resolve the claim in the most effective and expedient manner within personal authority levels.
  4. To maintain regular diary review of all ongoing claims in respect of key dates and actions.
  5. Review and processing of case, client and third-party contractor invoices.
  6. To cooperate with our partners, the McLean Group, across all their offices as required.
  7. General claims administration and organisation including orderly document management to ensure ready accessibility of files to all Claims staff.
  8. Maintain regular reviews of claims in respect of cost estimates, processing payments and reimbursements, and preparing invoices.

Personal Development

  1. To further develop technical knowledge and skills utilizing written resources, occasional training courses and observations (such as hospital visits, ship inspections, seminars and conferences).
  2. Meeting Clients and other third parties as required to develop and then maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to enhance claims service delivery.
  3. To assist with the management of company resources such as the library and reference materials.

Note: The tasks listed are representative, but not exhaustive. It is anticipated that there will be some role fluidity to meet the demands of the business. Occasional travel may be required, particularly in the event of a large or complex incident as well as assistance outside office hours from time to time.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following.

Experience

  • Practical experience of handling P&I claims including crew, cargo and/or other claims within a ship owner (Crew or Operations), P&I club or brokerage environment.
  • Excellent English and Greek language and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Evidence of developing organisational skills and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously with the necessary attention to detail.
  • Strong administration and IT skills across a variety of common platforms but mainly Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and data entry.
  • Evidence of a practical and commercial approach to problem solving.
  • Evidence of strong social skills that can be applied to a work context.
