MedNet International was established in 1990 as a provider of strategic direction, managerial practices, technology and innovation for the international health insurance industry.
Since then, MedNet International has launched nine healthcare management service operations in Europe and the Middle East. These efforts established the MedNet Group as an international organisation providing affordable, quality solutions that meet individuals’ long-term healthcare needs and offer financial protection.
MedNet International was originally organised around a multi-disciplinary management team combining the expertise of many specialists including insurance, medical management, network management, healthcare economics and information technology.
Since its early days, MedNet International has identified Information Technology as a key source of competitive advantage. For this reason, in 1995, MedNet International’s IT division was established in Athens, Greece as an independent company.
In 1997, the MedNet Group was taken over by Munich Re – the world leader in reinsurance, primary insurance and asset management - and thus became an integral part of Munich Re’s global healthcare strategy. The group and its customers benefited from obtaining access to Munich Re’s experience, expertise and worldwide network.
In 1998, MedNet International was restructured and several healthcare management disciplines were transferred to Munich Re, giving MedNet International the opportunity to focus exclusively on IT solutions and services.
